We aim to make connecting your Hatch an easy process so that you can begin using your device to invest in your sleep as quickly as possible! Your Hatch will connect to most WiFi network set ups, but it does have a few requirements that you will want to keep in mind.
Your WiFi network should be:
- A 2.4GHz network- most WiFi network set ups have two setting options for the WiFi signal that is broadcast (2.4GHz and 5.0GHz). Your Hatch will need to connect to the 2.4GHz signal. While the 5.0GHz network setting is known to be "faster", the 2.4GHz setting is best for sending small amounts of data over longer distances- making it perfect for your Hatch! If you don't have a 2.4GHz network, please reach out to your Internet Service Provider to assist you with getting one set up! If you have a 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz network that is combined, you can use that option. View the Combined Network article for more information.
- A secure network- to ensure a secure connection, we do require that the network you connect your Hatch to be password protected. If your network does not currently have a password on it, you will either want to add a password to your network, or create a second network just for your Hatch that requires a password. If you are unsure how to go about this, your Internet Service Provider will be able to walk you through getting this done.
Your Hatch won't connect to a network with the following:
- Special characters in the network name or password: / \ or " - are known to cause issues connecting. If your network name or password has these characters, you will want to remove them and try to connect again.
- If your network has a network name or password longer than 17 characters, and you are having trouble connecting or reconnecting your Hatch, you may want to shorten it. While your device may initially connect to a network with more than 17 characters in it, shortening the network name and password will prevent any reconnection issues.
- Captive portal networks, commonly found in hotels, apartments, universities, and airports, involve a shared internet system. With this type of networks, each device that is attempting to connect must access a web page through a web browser in order to access the network. Because your Hatch does not have a web browser on the device, it's not possible to connect to this type of network.
Your Hatch can remember the last 3 Wi-Fi networks it's successfully connected to in the past, and will automatically connect to your saved networks when in range!
