Yes! In order for your Rest+ 2nd gen to continue to charge while on the charging base - the charging base needs to be plugged in. You can absolutely use the plug to power your Rest+ by itself without the charging base if you need to though (it can charge that way too!).
What happens if my device is plugged in AND on the charging base?
When your Rest+ 2nd gen is plugged in and the charging base is NOT plugged in your Rest+ will still continue to charge.

No! You'll still have the same functionality whether or not your device is plugged in, on the charging base, or running off the battery!

For most users, it will last about 8 hours- this depends on several factors including the sound level, sound type, and light setting choosen. For more information, head to this article for more info!

The charging base shouldn't interact with other materials or items that are placed on the base, however, we do recommend only using the base with the Rest+ 2nd gen and keeping it clear from miscellaneous objects or materials. We strongly advise against using anything but the Rest+ 2nd gen with the charging base.
Can it charge my phone?
We would advise against attempting to charge any smart devices using the charging base. We only recommend using the base with the Rest+ 2nd gen
Can I use a different charging base for the Rest+ 2nd gen?
We would only recommend using the base that's included with your Rest+ 2nd gen to charge the device.
Do I need to keep the base clean?
Yes! We recommend keeping the device and the charging base as clean as possible. Certain levels of dirt and debris can inhibit the charging functionality.
Is wireless charging safe?
Absolutely! Wireless charging is completely safe to use. There are safety protocols within the charging base and the Rest+ 2nd gen to ensure the charging process is managed very carefully. The base uses magnetic fields to wirelessly charge the Rest+ 2nd gen. These fields are extremely small, which is why the device has to be placed directly on the charging base for the process to work. The fields are also turned off when the lamp isn't on the charging base.
Will my device or the charging base get warm?
All chargers create some heat as they charge, however, this is to be expected and does not indicate an issue with either item. All of our charging bases and devices go through extensive testing and have safety features implemented to protect you and the devices.
