Hatch devices require a 2.4Ghz network in order to connect, this is a common requirement for many smart home devices. Not sure what this means? We can help!
The "Ghz" of your network, refers to the radio frequency that is used by your Wi-Fi. Most commonly, you will have two frequencies to choose from, 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz. Your router may broadcast only one type for the network or it could combine the frequencies and broadcast them both on the same network. We refer to the network that broadcasts both frequencies as a combined or dual-band network.
If you are not sure what frequency your Wi-Fi is broadcasting, you can use these helpful hints to find out:
-
Check the name of your Wi-Fi network.
Open the Wi-Fi menu in your phone's setting and see if the name of the network can give you a clue. You may find networks with names like "myWiFi2.4" or "myWiFi5.0". When connecting your Hatch, you will want to select the network with the 2.4 in the name, if you have one- as this network is most likely to be broadcasting the 2.4Ghz frequency.
-
Check your router.
On your Wi-Fi router you should be able to locate a label (often on the bottom or side of the router) that will tell you what frequencies it will be able to broadcast at. Remember, if your router is able to broadcast both a 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz, you will want to dig in a little more to make sure you have either a 2.4Ghz network or a combined net work set up.
Once you have noted that your router can broadcast a 2.4Ghz network, you will want to log into your router’s administrative interface through a web browser and view the details wireless network settings. There you will be able to see the frequency band in use. If you aren't sure how to do this, we recommend calling your Internet Service Provider or locating your routers user manual for guidance.
